Trauma can simply be defined as an emotional wound that leads to other psychological injuries, these wounds develop as a result of an awful event one experienced. Traumatic experiences does not only affect our emotions, it affects our physical health and alters our sense of safety. Trauma manifest in different forms, it could be physical, emotional or even so complex for the brain to handle. But the good news for us is that, God is aware of all that is happening to us or that have already happened, he has them in his record. As Christians, we have the privilege to always draw near to God when we are faced with things that troubles our spirit and physical health. Although, the Bible did not record the word trauma, but it addresses human sufferings that comes in various forms. It will interest us to know that we are not alone in life, God’s eyes are mightily upon us, preserving us every step of the way. So when next it seems like we have hit rock bottom as a result of a frightening and stressful event that took place, and it hunts our emotions and spirits, let us bind the promises of God around our neck, meditating it day and night.
Traumatic experiences comes with a wide range of emotions that maybe difficult for us to handle, and these can result to lasting effects. However, trauma is deeply human experience. It knows no age nor respects status. Let us take a look at a Biblical characters that experienced trauma.
King David the Psalmist. The Bible recorded that David was faced with numerous challenges during his life time. From fighting series of battles from a tender age, to when King Saul chased after him with the the intentions to kill him. David suffered persecutions and loss. During these difficult times, David sought after God, he expressed his emotions to God through writing. He asked God for help and at the same time trusted him for refuge.

Job. Job’s perfect life suddenly became filled with traumatic experiences. He lost his health, his family, friends and all his wealth. Job was in deep sorrow, but during this time, he never cursed God rather he expressed his suffering to God, he held tight unto God. One vital lesson we should deduce from these Biblical characters who suffered pained, is that God is ever present even in the worst situations. His arms are wide open to hold and comfort us and his ears open to hear our pleas.

What Does The Bible Say About Trauma?
The Bible acknowledges our suffering and offers healing through God’s words. In his words, we will find courage, faith, strength and hope to help us live above pain and anguish.
Matthew 11:18 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”. This verse of the Bible serve as a gentle reminder that Jesus is capable of giving us rest. It is a firm assurance that in Jesus alone, we will find rest from all that burdens our hearts and souls. When we are weighed with traumatic experiences that frightens our soul, let us rest in the assurance that is in this very verse.
1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”. This scripture offers us the assurance that God cares for us, and we do not need to go through pain alone. God invites us in this verse to lean on him for strength and support for he is our safe place.
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”. This verse offers comfort to those that are are going through traumatic experience. It declares God’s presence in their lives even when they are in deep emotional pain. From the scriptures above, it shows that God is aware of our pains and willing to help us out when we reach out o him.
