Serving God is one of our primary purpose here on earth. The scripture places great importance on service to God. Service to God is seen as a way through which we show our dedication, love and obedience to God and the things pertaining to kingdom. When we study Christ’s life on earth, we can see that his life and teachings were based on service to God. He emphasized that that serving God is the foundation of our Christian life. We can’t truly say that we are Christ followers if we do not render services to God. When we hear about serving God, many people wonder what it truly means to serve God. To serve God means to love him wholeheartedly, without reservations and abide by his rules and principles. It also involves rendering various services to him. There are ways through which we can serve God faithfully. Let us look at the different ways that we can serve God;
Soul-Winning: We can serve God through bringing more souls into his kingdom. This entails evangelizing the good news of Christ, telling them about God’s love and mercy that is abundant for us. By doing so, we invite them to Christ and they are saved from eternal damnation. The wise said he that wins a soul is wise. This is an indication that soul-winning is an essential act of service in Christianity.
Financially: We can also serve God with the finance he gives to us. When he bless us with material things, we return it to him through service. When we engage in church buildings, supporting with finance, provide food and financial help to the needy, paying of tithes and giving of offerings. These are the ways we can use our finance to serve God.
Commitment: Being committed in our local Churches, Parishes and community, is another way to serve God. This way we avail our selves for the activities that takes place there. We get involved with the matters of the Church, like going to sick homes to pray for the sick, visit the prisoners and pray with them. These are the ways we become committed in our local churches. Jesus is an epitome of service, through his sacrificial death on the cross of Calvary and in his interactions with people. He showed what it truly mans to serve God and as his followers, we are to follow his footmarks.

What Does God Say About Serving Him?
The Bible shows that serving God is an act that is tied to obedience and love for God. We can not faithfully serve God if we do not love him and obey his commandments. Serving others is a way we reflect God’s nature which is love and humility. We can see that Christ served others through washing his disciple’s feet. This act performed by Christ interprets high level of humility and service to God. Serving God depicts demonstrating love for God through practical ways.
Exodus 23:25 “But you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst”. This verse communicates that serving God is a must for every believer, while letting us know that we do not have a choice when it coms to serving God. This verse also highlights the benefits of serving God. For we all know that God does not leave those who serve him faithfully, he blesses them with the blessings that is due for them.
Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”. This scripture encourages us to serve God with the right mindsets. When rendering services to God, let us do it with all our hearts and never for once see it as though we are rendering those services to man. Even when the physical service is to our fellow man, let us bear it in mind that it is to God.
Romans 12:11 “Not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord”. God encourages us here not to be fervent in spirit and serve God faithfully.
