He gave us the opportunity to experience freedom at it’s peak. However, this kind of freedom is the not the type that allows us to live recklessly or do whatever we dim fit, but it is the kind of freedom that transforms our hearts, minds and souls. It shapes our heart and entire being to behave in ways that aligns with God’s nature.

Sadly, many people chase financial, political and societal freedom. They think that these kinds of freedom bring them happiness, but instead these kinds of freedom without the knowledge of Christ leads to more profound emptiness and bondage. The scripture made it clear that true freedom comes from God, the kind of freedom that sets us free from sin and slavery. Those acts and experiences that makes us their captive, Jesus died to save us from them all. This is why as Christians, we have to live our lives and walk with the consciousness that Christ has redeemed us from all curses that have held us captive. Whether it is sickness, poverty, death, sin, fear, guilt and shame that have captivated our souls and minds, the good news is that Christ have broken off those chains and have given us the kind of freedom that the world cannot give. When next you feel bound by the enemy, use the scriptures to remind the adversary that you are no longer a captive, Christ has paid the ultimate price for you.

What Does The Bible Say About Being Set Free From Captivity?

The Bible teaches that truth and freedom are inseparable. When we haven’t seek and confessed our truth, we will still be bounded by the enemy, even if we say that we are free. Freedom does not happen by mere saying and wishing, it happens when we have known the truth and have accepted it. Now what is this truth? The truth in this context is talking about the person of Jesus. The truth that he is the son pf God, and also the truth of his teachings. This is the truth that the Bible referred to in the book of John 8:32. God’s truth brings us freedom, peace, growth and clarity.

Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery”. Apostle Paul encourages us in this scripture to stand on the freedom that Christ has given to us, giving no thought to what the enemy says. Even after we have been set freed, the enemy always seek for ways to try to burden us with captivity through our thoughts. But here, the Bible has encouraged us never to forget the purpose of Christ sacrifice. It is to give us ultimate freedom from sin and all life’s struggle.

Luke 4:18 ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free”. Setting us free from captivity was one of the greatest purpose of Christ on earth. God sent him to earth to free us from bondage and restore us back to him. Glory to God in the highest, because the work has been done! and we have been set free from all forms of bondage!

1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light”. This scripture declares our new identity in Christ. We are a royal priesthood, chosen by God himself.
