What Does The Bible Say About Rain?

The Bible often uses rain as a token of God’s provision, as seen in the book of Deuteronomy 11:14 “I will give you rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil”. Here the Bible describes rainfall as a gift of provision from God to mankind. Stating clearly that the rain will enable our plants to grow and produce seeds so that we may gather grains and have food for our stomach. Also, let us see the book of Zechariah 10:1 “Ask rain from the LORD in the season of the spring rain, from the LORD who makes the storm clouds, and he will give them showers of rain, to everyone the vegetation in the field”. This scripture resonates with the former, they both acknowledge rainfall on earth as God’s act of graciousness to us.

Furthermore, rain is also regarded as a sign of God’s judgement or wrath as seen in the book of Genesis 6:17 “And I myself I am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under the heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life, everything that is on the earth shall die”. This verses explains that God used rainfall to destroy everything on earth as a result of his anger towards his creatures that rebelled against him.

Generally, the Bible describes rain as a powerful and an important part of God’s creations that have both negative and positive meanings.
