Priests are the shepherds given to us by God. They have been placed in the Church by God to cater for our spiritual needs. Priests play very significant role in Christendom, they are gifted with special capacity that not every born again child of God possess. God sees them as great assets for his kingdom. Despite having special anointing from God, let us not fail to understand that Priests are still humans and they are capable of failing and making mistakes. The anointing that they have been blessed with does not make them immortals. The expectations we have of them can sometimes be over-weighing. Congregants expect perfections from Priests, but in the real sense, they are not perfect. They have only being blessed with special priestly gifts, but still face challenges on earth. As Christ followers, we are to accord due respect to the shepherds that God have placed over us and having the knowledge that they are humans like us.

Priests are in charge of teaching and leading the congregants. They oversee the spiritual welfare of God’s flocks and help to maintain unity in the Church. Their responsibilities in church are very influential. However, not everyone is meant to become a Priest, but this does not in anyway negate that God loves Priests more. God loves us equal and we are all useful in his kingdom in different ways. For one to become a Priest, he must first be ordained by God, as Priesthood is not a mantle that is gotten by oneself. Priests are to be upright in their ways, living a life that is transparent and capable of emulation. They are to be able to control and organize their own homes first! A Priest must have a very strong and stable relationship with God and the Holy Spirit. What Does The Bible Say About Priests?

Bibles says that Priests are to be leaders with high level of integrity, humility and love in their hearts for God’s flocks. They are not just to be teachers of God’s word, but they should be capable of supporting, guiding and spiritually nurturing Christ followers. The Bible recognizes that Priesthood is a spiritual calling with high responsibility that can sometimes overburden them. But God assures his Priests of his ever abiding presence that will bring them strength and encouragement.

Leviticus 21:6 “They must be holy to their God and must not profane the name of their God. They present the food offerings to the Lord, the food of their God, and they are to be holy”. In this scripture, Moses highlights the qualities of a Priest. They must be Holy before God.

Hebrews 5:1 “Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins”. This verse draws our attention to the ordination and responsibilities of  Priests. They are there to guide us spiritually, making sure that we maintain our relationship with God.
