What Does The Bible Say About God’s Mercy?

The Bible places great value on the idea of God’s mercy, portraying it as his nature. Mercy in the Biblical context means compassion and forgiveness. This type of compassion and forgiveness surpasses judgement. In the New Testament, Jesus taught about mercy and also demonstrating it through his actions. In his teachings, he made it clear that showing mercy to others is not optional for Christians, it is a direct order from him which is a reflection of God’s nature in us. The mercy of God operates in different levels;

Let us see the book of Matthew 5:7 which talks about the beatitudes. It says “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy”. This verses of the scripture talks about the act of showing mercy and receiving mercy, stating it as a core virtue in Christianity.

Ephesians 2:4-5; “But because of his great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions, it is by grace you have been saved”.
