It is not a gift we earn by good deeds, rather it is a free gift from him to us. From the story of Esther, we can deduce that she became the wife of King Ahasuerus because of the favor of God upon her. The Bible recorded that Queen Esther obtained favor in the sight of the King’s Chamberlin and all those that looked upon her.

Queen Esther did not become the King’s wife by hard work, nor by beauty, nor by qualification. She became the queen through the favor of God upon her, God’s favor differentiated her from the other maidens and set her on a pedestal. Queen Esther is a typical example of a personality that embodied the favor of God. God’s favor is a distinguishing factor that differentiates us from other people, it makes us spectacular and lovable. The Bible presents God’s favor as a gift and a sign of approval from God. This spectacular gift shields us from evil and provides us with only, but good things. The Bible describes his favor upon man as unmerited. Not a gift we work for, but one that is received through his grace and mercy.

Isaiah 49:8 “This is what the Lord says: ‘In the time of my favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you; I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people”. The favor of God provides us all round blessings, ranging from protection, to receiving his help and making us a covenant.
