Humility involves being teachable or possessing a teachable spirit. We all know that without being taught, we will know nothing, our knowledge bank will be blank. Whoever that wants to soar high in life must be willing to learn and unlearn certain things, ready to take instructions and work with them. As Christians, it is very essential for us to possess teachable spirits. It will help us to walk in obedience to God instructions. It will also keep us firmly on the path that leads to eternal life with Christ. Being teachable influences others to draw close to God. To have a teachable spirit is a treasure that is that cannot decay. Those who do not learn nor listen to instructions, the Bible calls such people fools. The root of possessing unteachable spirit is pride. The Bible clearly talks about the dangers of pride. God resents the proud, but exalts those who are humble. Due to the Adamic nature of man, receiving instructions, rebuke and accepting criticism is not always easy. The human heart find it hard to accept corrections because the it is prone to be proud. However, as Christians our hearts have been purged off every bit of pride, we have been crucified with Christ and every self in us dies off. We need to implore the help of the Holy Spirit to help our hearts and make us open to rebuke. Being teachable makes our ways and actions to align with the plans and will of God for us. We can not attain certain heights in life if we are not teachable. Bible said that it is only those that God loves that he chastise, so when next God rebukes us, let us count it as a privilege.

What Does The Bible Say About Being teachable?

As said earlier that the root of being unyielding is pride. The Bible constantly discourages haughtiness, it describes it as a sin that does not only separate us from God, but also stops us from learning and growing. Being teachable means that we do not depend only our human wisdom and strength. Being teachable enrich our faith and Christian life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. Apostle Paul tells us in this verse that the Bible is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training. God knows and understands that we cannot d o life all by ourselves, that is why he provided a guideline for us to follow.

Proverbs 9:9 “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning”. This verse of the scripture highlights the need and importance of being teachable. Being open to teachings and instructions makes us wiser.

Proverbs 12:1 “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid”. The Bible acknowledges that those who love discipline love knowledge and those who hate corrections are fools.
